Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We are called to an extraordinary life, a life set apart and empowered by God Himself. It’s not just about what we are saved from, but what we are saved for – a vibrant, purposeful, and holy existence.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” – 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV
Every person has a God-shaped hole in their hearts. So, take a wild guess on what is the only thing which can truly satisfy you. You’re right, none of the things of the world could ever satisfy you, except for God Alone! – 1 John 2:15-17
This Pocket Sermon is to help you folks out there who are struggling, falling constantly in your walk of life and are seeking God’s help to live a Holy Life
1. The Struggle is Real
Having said that, let’s face it, it is hard to live a Holy life. In fact, you would feel that your life was far better and easier to operate before knowing Christ.
No accountability, no borders, no fear of our wrong doings. Attitudes like – “I like it just because I like it and no-one can dislike it”; “I’m gonna do it because I find pleasure in it”; “even though it’s wrong, I’m gonna convince myself and others that it is not a big deal”; “I really don’t have time for all this”; “My Knowledge is too much to make room to know about God“; “Who says being Drunk is bad?”; “Who says I need to respect and love others?”; “Who says I need to be faithful to my spouse?”; “who says it’s wrong to harm someone, they deserve to die?”. I mean the list can go on and on, and it is so simple to think these things. But the Key is that all of it is laid open and raw stating that those attitudes are so wrong and it is only God Who can convict you of these Sins. Quite true, Having the Only true God in our life comes with His Holy Character shaping and moulding us to be Christ-like.
But, remember that we are Called to be holy. Meaning, the very purpose of our calling is to be Holy, because our God is Holy. So, let us not take grace for granted and live a self-satisfying life and treat God as if He is a a “Room service” who comes in every day and clean up your mess!
El-Roi – The God who sees. Remember that He is the God who does see, He sees if we are truly struggling and he hears your call to him in your despair.
2. Fix Your Eyes Upon Him
Are you a person who can be influenced easily? Do the things happening around you have an immediate or slow impact in your life? Do those things initially which were wrong to you seem okay just because you are in contact with it more than often? Then, do this…. RUN!
Yes, RUN away from those setups. Even if it costs, even if it hurts, even if it breaks bonds and relationships. RUN TO THE FATHER, He can heal you, he can restore you, He can Sustain you. If you like music, Here is a nice song called “Run to the Father” – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTHS4W1bPj8
To truly live a holy life, we must deliberately shift our gaze. Stop looking inward at your flaws, your past mistakes, or your perceived inadequacies. Stop looking outward at the world’s allurements. Instead, fix your eyes, your heart, and your entire being on Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 12:2 (NIV): “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
When you fix your eyes on Him, you are looking at perfect righteousness. You are clothed in His righteousness, not your own. This is the liberating truth of imputed righteousness (Isaiah 61:10).
This frees you from the condemnation of your past. You are covered! As Paul declared in Philippians 3:9,…not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.”
3. Believe in Him
The foundation of this holy life is simple, yet profound: Believe in God. It’s not about earning; it’s about receiving through faith. Look to Abraham, our father in faith:
Romans 4:3 (NIV): “What does Scripture say? ‘Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.’”
Genesis 15:6 (NIV): “Abraham believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.”
His belief, his SIMPLE TRUST in God, was counted as righteousness. And because we believe, we too are counted as righteous! This is why living a holy life is “Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,” says the Lord Almighty (Zechariah 4:6). Your FAITH opens the door for His Spirit to work in you.
4. Don’t Let Your Faith Waver
It Does matter to God how you look at Him. Do you think that He COULD help you or you know for sure the HE INDEED can help you and in fact there is nothing impossible by our God.
Abraham’s faith wasn’t just a moment; it was a journey of unwavering trust. He faced what seemed impossible, yet he did not doubt.
Romans 4:19-20 (NIV): “Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his own body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God.”
His and his wife’s “should have already been dead” kind of age DID NOT SHAKE HIS FAITH. Instead, his FAITH in GOD moved him to the high ranks of Righteousness.
Consider the Roman Centurion in Matthew 8:5-13. He approached Jesus, asking for his servant to be healed. When Jesus offered to come to his house, the Centurion said, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.” He didn’t need Jesus physically present; he believed in Jesus’ authority and power from a distance. Jesus marvelled, saying, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.” This man’s unwavering belief in Christ’s word alone brought healing.
5. We Are Meant for So Much More!
Romans 5:10 (NIV): “For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!”
Imagine, if SIN, which had No dominion over our Lord, can reign from ADAM right through all the generations, reaching far beyond us and all the coming generations.
HOW MUCH more can our GRACE by GOD HIMSELF can reign in us if we are IN HIM. How amazing His LOVE we can experience His Love, How much more we can be lost in His Presence. He SUPERSEDES every pleasure this World can offer you. He is Unmatched and literally, has no RIVALS.
Matthew 10:39 – Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.
Why not lose all that you have for him? Shift your focus from yourself to Him. Let’s have the Faith like Abraham, that His and His Wife’s “should have already been dead” kind of age DID NOT SHAKE HIS FAITH. Instead, his FAITH in GOD moved him to the high ranks of Righteousness.
This means enjoying His presence, basking in His love, and knowing more about Him and His character every single day. We are called to “fight the good fight of the faith” (1 Timothy 6:12), not for salvation, but from the victory already secured in Christ!
1 Peter 1:15-16, Romans 12:1-2
Let’s put off the old self and put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:22-24). His grace teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age (Titus 2:11-12).
